From a completely on-field perspective, this will create a lot of opportunity for some of Washington's other running backs. But the most exciting name in that backfield is third-round rookie Antonio Gibson, who instantly becomes a compelling target in fantasy football drafts.
Antonio Gibson Fantasy Football Value
Gibson is a hybrid player, having primarily played wide receiver at Memphis last year. In 14 games, he caught 38 passes for 735 yards, adding another 33 attempts for 369 yards on the ground, scoring 12 total TDs. That kind of versatility will make Gibson very attractive provided he can carve out a big enough role in Washington.
At this point, that's anyone's guess. Adrian Peterson will almost certainly be the team's lead back on the ground again, but Bryce Love and Peyton Barber could contend for touches as well. Gibson will likely be the team's third-down back, but he'll face competition for that role from J.D. McKissic.
Washington's offense isn't going to produce many fantasy-relevant players, but Gibson does have a chance to be one of them, particularly in PPR leagues. He's best viewed as a low-risk, high-reward gamble and should be drafted as a low-end RB3 or FLEX option going forward.
