NHL Predictions Today: Player Props, Best Bets
Sabres Moneyline (-176)
Blue Jackets at Sabres — 7:00 p.m. ET
Moneyline
Buffalo enters Friday with a 7-5-3 record while Columbus sits at 6-7-0 and has struggled away from home. The Blue Jackets are just 1-4-0 on the road, and they'll be playing their second game in as many nights after defeating Dallas in a shootout Thursday.
That's a difficult turnaround against a Sabres offense featuring Tage Thompson, who has already scored 10 goals through 15 games.
The Sabres have averaged 3.1 goals per game, compared to 2.7 for Columbus. Buffalo has the advantage of playing at home against a potentially fatigued opponent.
With the Blue Jackets struggling on the road and Thompson providing a dangerous scoring threat, the Sabres are a quality ML bet.
Kirill Kaprizov Anytime Goal Scorer (-135)
Sharks at Wild — 8:00 p.m. ET
Kirill Kaprizov has been one of the NHL's most productive offensive players to open the season, recording 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points through 17 games. The Minnesota winger has scored in 11 of those 17 contests, including seven of his last 10, while averaging 3.2 shots on goal per game.
The matchup is particularly appealing against a San Jose team allowing 3.53 goals per game, one of the highest marks in the league.
Kaprizov is a fixture on Minnesota's top line and first power-play unit, giving him plenty of opportunities to capitalize against a vulnerable Sharks defense.
With Kaprizov scoring on 27.8% of his shots this season and the Wild entering Friday with an 11-3-3 record, there's plenty to like about his chances of finding the net.
Flames Moneyline (-130)
Ducks at Flames — 8:00 p.m. ET
Moneyline
Calgary is just 7-8-1 overall, but the Flames have been considerably more competitive at home, where they've posted a 5-3-0 record. They'll welcome an Anaheim team playing its second game in as many nights after earning a 5-4 victory over Edmonton on Thursday. The Ducks also have a 7-7-1 record and have lost six of their last 10 games.
Anaheim has been dangerous offensively, averaging 3.6 goals per game, but the circumstances favor Calgary. The Ducks have to travel after a high-scoring contest against the Oilers while the Flames have the benefit of being rested and playing at home.
While Calgary's offense has struggled to generate consistent production, the combination of home-ice advantage and Anaheim's difficult scheduling spot makes the Flames an appealing moneyline selection.
NHL Betting -- Frequently Asked Questions
What Is the Puck Line in NHL Betting?
The puck line is hockey's version of a point spread. The standard puck line is usually set at 1.5 goals, meaning a team listed at -1.5 must win by at least two goals for the bet to cash. A team at +1.5 can either win outright or lose by one goal.
What Does the Moneyline Mean in NHL Betting?
A moneyline bet is a wager on which team will win the game. Favorites have negative odds, while underdogs have positive odds. Unlike the puck line, the margin of victory does not matter.
What Are NHL Player Props?
NHL player props allow bettors to wager on an individual player's performance rather than the final result of the game. Common markets include goals, assists, points, shots on goal, and goalie saves.
What Should You Consider When Betting on NHL Games?
Several factors can influence NHL betting decisions, including starting goaltenders, injuries, recent team performance, special-teams play, expected line combinations, and whether a team is playing on consecutive nights. Because goalie confirmations can significantly impact a matchup, it can be useful to check the latest lineup news before placing a bet.
