Jim Harbaugh, Los Angeles Chargers (+800)

After winning the College Football Playoff National Championship with Michigan, Jim Harbaugh has returned to the NFL to coach the Los Angeles Chargers.

This will be Harbaugh's second head coaching stint in the NFL, previously amassing a 44-19-1 record with the San Francisco 49ers. In four seasons from 2011-2014, Harbaugh made the playoffs three times, notably representing the NFC in the 2012 Super Bowl.

The younger Harbaugh takes over a Chargers team that finished with the fifth-worst record (5-12) in the league last season. They'd previously made the playoffs in 2022 but have opted to rebuild following their disappointing 2023 season.

That rebuild started with the signing of Harbaugh but has since included moving on from several franchise mainstays such as Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen, and Mike Williams. Still, with Justin Herbert locked up until 2029, LA is by no means a dire situation. Excluding last year's injury-riddled campaign, the Chargers have ranked in the top 10 in total offense each of Herbert's first three seasons.

Defense remains a question mark as they've been outside the top 20 in scoring defense each of the last four years, but that's an area Harbaugh projects to make an immediate impact. Over four seasons in San Francisco, the 49ers were top five in yards allowed four times. They had a top-five scoring defense three times, ranking "just" 10th in Harbaugh's final season.

With the fewest number of players signed for 2024 and the third-most cap space, LA has plenty of flexibility going forward. It helps that they own all of their picks -- including No. 5 overall -- in the upcoming NFL draft.

Who will be the fifth overall pick? That remains to be seen, though there are several high-profile names who could be immediate difference-makers for Harbaugh's Chargers. As it stands now, the Chargers' win total is set at 8.5 games on FanDuel Sportsbook. LA has the second-shortest odds to win the AFC West at +370.

Harbaugh faces an uphill battle turning the Chargers around in a loaded AFC, but he's proven to be one of the best minds in the sport and is a worthy favorite to be the 2024-25 AP NFL Coach of the Year.

Raheem Morris, Atlanta Falcons (+1000)

New Atlanta Falcons coach Raheem Morris has the second-shortest odds to win Coach of the Year. Morris spent the last three seasons as Sean McVay's defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams. Before that, he was an assistant on the Falcons and the secondary coach for the now-Washington Commanders.

This will be Morris' second stint as a full-time NFL head coach. He compiled a 17-31 record with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-2011, beginning at just 33-years-old. Then, in 2020, he went 4-7 as the interim for Atlanta.

Now, Morris returns to a Falcons roster chock-full of talent. With Atlanta finishing 7-10 three years in a row, they've been able to select a skill position player in the top 10 three drafts in a row -- Bijan Robinson (1.08) in 2023, Drake London (1.08) in 2022, and Kyle Pitts (1.04) in 2021.

Quarterback has been a question mark since the departure of Matt Ryan, but the Falcons seemingly solved that issue this offseason when they inked Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 deal. Previously, Cousins led the Minnesota Vikings to a pair of playoff appearances over six seasons. He was on pace for a career year before tearing his Achilles in Week 8 last year. He's expected to be at full speed by training camp.

With Cousins under center, expectations will be high for Morris in his first season. That's reflected in Atlanta's win total odds, currently set at 9.5 on FanDuel Sportsbook. The Falcons are -110 favorites to win the NFC South and have the sixth-shortest odds to win the NFC Championship (+1300).

Given the offensive talent in Atlanta, it's no wonder Raheem Morris has the second-shortest odds to win the 2024-25 AP NFL Coach of the Year.

Jonathan Gannon, Arizona Cardinals (+1400)

Despite the Arizona Cardinals going just 4-13 in their first season under Jonathan Gannon's tutelage, Gannon has the third-shortest odds to win Coach of the Year.

2023 was the definition of a rebuilding season for Gannon's Cardinals. Franchise quarterback Kyler Murray was eased into action following an ACL tear the year prior, and that resulted in them losing eight of their first nine games. However, Arizona was much more competitive upon Kyler's return, finishing 3-5 over the final eight games.

Those final eight games saw Trey McBride break out with Kyler under center, with James Conner continuing to tote the rock with great success. Both will be back in 2024, presumably joined by several high-profile rookies. The Cardinals own three picks inside the top 35 of next month's draft, including No. 4 and No. 27 overall.

It remains to be seen who the Cardinals will draft with the fourth pick, although top receiver prospect Marvin Harrison Jr. is the favorite (-145), via the NFL Draft odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.

While they're expected to address offense early, Arizona likely needs to take a step forward on defense if Gannon wants to win Coach of the Year. Arizona finished 31st in scoring defense and 25th in yards allowed last season. Considering Gannon's background -- he served as the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator in 2021 and 2022 -- that's an area we'd expect to improve further into Gannon's tenure.

As of March 28th, the Cardinals' win total is set at just 6.5 on FanDuel Sportsbook. They have the longest odds to win the NFC West at +1100, though low expectations could actually aid Gannon's Coach of the Year chances.
