NBA Predictions for Today: Picks and Best Bets

Boston Celtics -8.5 (-105)

Celtics at Hornets — 7:00 p.m. ET

Spread

Boston Celtics
Nov 7 12:10am UTCMore odds in Sportsbook

The Boston Celtics enter Friday at 6-2 while the Charlotte Hornets have fallen to 3-6. Boston has posted a 115.8 offensive rating and 109.2 defensive rating, compared with Charlotte's 101.5 offensive rating and 112.7 defensive rating.

That adds up to a stark net-rating gap: +6.6 for Boston and -11.2 for Charlotte.

Charlotte has dropped five straight games, and its offensive struggles are particularly concerning against a Boston defense that has held opponents to 108.2 points per 100 possessions. The Hornets are also dealing with frontcourt and wing injuries, reducing their depth.

Boston's two-way advantage provides a reasonable path to a double-digit victory, especially if the Celtics are hitting from three.

San Antonio Spurs -15.5 (-106)

Spurs at Kings — 10:00 p.m. ET

Spread

San Antonio Spurs
Nov 7 3:10am UTCMore odds in Sportsbook

The San Antonio Spurs bring a 6-2 record into a matchup with the 1-7 Sacramento Kings.

San Antonio has a +8.0 net rating while Sacramento owns a -12.9 mark. The Kings' 119.4 defensive rating is the third-worst in the league, and their 106.5 offensive rating (sixth-worst) has made it difficult to stay competitive when opponents get rolling.

The Kings are also short-handed in the frontcourt, creating another obstacle against a Spurs team with a 107.4 defensive rating.

The gap in underlying efficiency is substantial, which makes San Antonio worth considering even at -15.5.

Trail Blazers-Lakers Over 231.5 (-110)

Trail Blazers at Lakers — 10:00 p.m. ET

The Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers enter Friday with two of the NBA's most productive offenses. Portland is scoring 119.4 points per 100 possessions while Los Angeles sits at 119.2. Both teams are also playing at a pace above 102 possessions per 48 minutes, a combination that can create plenty of scoring opportunities.

Portland has started 6-1, and Los Angeles is 7-2. The Lakers' 111.5 defensive rating leaves room for the Trail Blazers to generate offense while both teams' efficient attacks support an elevated total.

Portland is expected to be without multiple perimeter players, which adds uncertainty to its scoring depth, but the combination of pace and offensive production makes the over appealing at 231.5.

NBA Betting -- Frequently Asked Questions

What does the point spread mean in NBA betting?

The point spread is a margin set by oddsmakers to level the playing field between two unevenly matched teams. For example, if the Golden State Warriors are listed at -7.5, they need to win by 8 or more points for a bet on them to cash. Conversely, a bet on their opponent at +7.5 wins if that team loses by 7 or fewer points — or wins outright.

What is the moneyline?

The moneyline is a straight-up bet on which team wins the game, with no spread involved. Favorites carry a negative number (e.g., -200, meaning you must risk $200 to win $100), while underdogs carry a positive number (e.g., +170, meaning a $100 bet returns $170 profit).

How does the over/under (game total) work?

Oddsmakers set a projected combined score for the game, and bettors wager on whether the actual total will go over or under that number. For instance, if the total is set at 224.5 points, an over bet wins if both teams combine for 225 or more points. NBA totals can swing based on pace of play, rest situations, and injuries, so it's worth tracking those factors before placing a total bet.

What are NBA player props?

Player props are bets tied to an individual player's statistical performance rather than the game's outcome. Common prop bet markets include points scored, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, and combinations of those stats.
