After the 2023 NBA Finals concluded, the Grizzlies were +3000 to win the NBA Finals but have since shortened to +2300 odds to win the NBA championship, evidencing interest in the squad's potential.
Memphis also has +1200 odds to win the Western Conference.
To do so, they'll have to play at least 30% of the season without their star point guard.
Memphis Grizzlies Without Ja Morant
During the 2022-23 regular season, the Grizzlies maintained a +7.3 net rating with Morant on the floor and a +1.0 net rating without him on the floor. Those would have ranked 1st and 15th, respectively, over the full season.
Across 22 games without Morant in the 2022-23 season (including the playoffs), the Grizzlies were 12-10 with a net rating of +0.4, according to PBPStats.com. Over the past three seasons, the team is 38-21 in games without Morant with a net rating of +6.5.
Memphis Grizzlies' 2023-24 Outlook
The team has been competitive without Morant in recent seasons, including a winning record last season with neutral data.
While not a positive by any means, the Morant suspension should not derail Memphis' season entirely.
