Two of the Big Ten's remaining unbeaten teams collide Saturday when No. 7 Indiana travels to Lincoln to face Nebraska.

Both teams enter at 5-0, but they've gotten there with explosive offenses as well as strong defenses. Indiana is scoring 44.2 points per game, while Nebraska isn't far behind at 43.6. The Hoosiers are favored by 7.5 points at FanDuel Sportsbook, with the total set at 48.5.

Despite the impressive defensive numbers on both sides, I'm willing to bet on the offenses in this matchup.

The Indiana Hoosiers are averaging 44.2 points per game and are coming off a 47-15 road win over Rutgers. The Hoosiers piled up 593 total yards in that game, including 336 on the ground, while quarterback Josh Hoover completed 20 of 27 passes for 251 yards and four touchdowns. It was IU’s most complete offensive performance of the year against a power conference foe.

Hoover has been extremely efficient through five games. He's thrown for 1,101 yards and 15 touchdowns without an interception while Indiana has a pair of productive running backs in Turbo Richard and Lee Beebe Jr. Richard has amassed 587 rushing yards, and Beebe has added 520.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers can do their share of the scoring, too.

Anthony Colandrea has thrown for 1,142 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 141 yards and two scores on the ground. The Huskers just hung 48 points on Maryland, with Colandrea accounting for 346 total yards in that win.

Neither defense has been easy to solve, but 48.5 isn't a super demanding total for two offenses that rank inside the top eight nationally in scoring.

Turbo Richard Anytime Touchdown (-180)

Any Time Touchdown Scorer
Turbo Richard

Richard has emerged as one of the most explosive pieces in Indiana's loaded offense.

Through five games, he's rushed 63 times for 587 yards and five touchdowns — an absurd 9.3 yards per carry. He's found the end zone in four of Indiana's five games and is coming off his best performance of the season, shredding Rutgers for 204 rushing yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.

The workload is shared with Beebe, but that hasn't prevented Richard from generating scoring opportunities. Indiana's ability to consistently reach the red zone is a big plus as the Hoosiers have scored 29 or more points in every game this season.

Nebraska's defense has been solid against the run, allowing roughly 100 rushing yards per game, so this isn't purely a matchup play. Instead, I'm banking on Richard's explosiveness and his role in an Indiana offense that has consistently created scoring chances.

With five touchdowns in five games and the ability to make big plays, Richard is my preferred player to find the end zone in this matchup.

College Football Betting FAQ

What are the most common college football bets?

The most common college football bets are the point spread, moneyline, and game total. Bettors can also wager on player props, team totals, alternate spreads, and futures such as conference champions or the national championship winner.

How does the point spread work in college football betting?

The point spread gives one team a handicap to create a more even betting market. If a team is listed at -7.5, it must win by at least eight points for a spread bet on that team to cash. A team listed at +7.5 can lose by seven points or fewer — or win outright — and still cover the spread.

What does over/under mean in college football?

An over/under, also called a game total, is a wager on the combined number of points scored by both teams. Bettors can choose whether the final score will finish over or under the sportsbook's posted total.

What should you consider before betting on college football?

Matchups, quarterback play, offensive and defensive efficiency, injuries, pace, home-field advantage, and coaching tendencies can all be important.
