SHINING SWORD (10) finished fifth when resuming last start, beaten 4 lengths, over 1 ?/16m at Nakayama. Big run in much tougher grade last time. Fitter again and a winning hope. BATTLE BORN (2) hasn't raced since finishing third over 1 ¼m at Kokura three months ago. All form is fresh and won only try course and distance. Can get the job done. WEST NOW (12) turned in a solid fresh performance last start when a minor placegetter over 1 ?m at Hanshin, beaten a nose. Has two wins when second-up and will strip much fitter for this. Among the winning hopes. GOLDEN SNAP (5) is back at the races for the first time since November 8. Worth noting she filled a minor placing when returning from a spell last prep over 1 ?m at Sapporo. Looks a strong top-three prospect.

Main Track Only

A horse entered for main track only (MTO) is one hoping the weather forecast or track conditions will move the race off the turf course and onto the main track. They are scratched the morning of the race if the conditions stay dry.

Blinkers

A hood worn on a horse’s head to limit side vision, which can improve concentration. Blinkers are added or removed to relax a horse or give it more focus.

Allowance Race

A race with non-claiming conditions set by the racing secretary. They are meant to be a step down from stakes racing.
