SUGARFIRE (11) recorded a third straight minor placing, and his seventh overall, when a closing third over 7 ½f at Muswellbrook last start. Drops 3.5kgs today after the claim and will enjoy a softer run from the inside alley. Finds the right race to break a run of outs. PORTOFINO (1) started at $1.24 and justified the quote with an effortless maiden win first-up over 6f at Mudgee a fortnight ago. Has his share of weight and is unproven in the going but he is a progressive three-year-old who deserves the benefit of the doubt. MAGURTZ (5) started favourite but they went too fast for him first-up over 5f at Muswellbrook. Given a five-week let-up since that outing. Can play a bigger role out to this more suitable journey. WHITTELLO SUN (8) did a good job to finish fourth from a wide draw over this distance at Tamworth two back. Didn't get a strong mile last time but can improve back at 7f. GRAND VOILE (14) is up in grade but is worth including in exotic bets.
