Pitcher Breakdown
There are three high-salary arms in great spots tonight -- Reynaldo Lopez ($10,900), Ranger Suarez ($10,500) and Cody Bradford ($9,700). You can make a good case for all three as they each draw a nice matchup, with Lopez hosting the Colorado Rockies, Suarez on the road at the Miami Marlins and Bradford getting the Los Angeles Angels.
Between the trio, I lean Suarez. Miami is next to last in wOBA against lefties this season (.280), and Suarez has been lights out away from home, pitching to a 2.99 xFIP and 25.3% strikeout rate in the split. Miami's 3.32 implied total is a slate-low clip. Also, there's a chance Suarez is the least popular of tonight's three top options.
After that top three, it's not pretty, but Jake Irvin ($8,400) is a decent value play. The right-handed Irvin has a friendly road matchup with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Irvin's overall numbers are respectable (4.14 SIERA and 20.6% strikeout rate), and he's better on the road, permitting just a .298 wOBA in the split. If I deviate from the slate's big three, Irvin is where I'll land.
Stacks to Target
- Atlanta Braves (5.16 implied total)
- The Braves are the clear-cut top stack. They're at home versus Austin Gomber. Marcell Ozuna ($3,700) is an elite play, and Jorge Soler ($3,100) is also one of the slate's premier bats as he's produced a .366 wOBA and 57.8% fly-ball rate against left-handers. Sean Murphy ($2,700), Ramon Laureano ($2,600) and Gio Urshela ($2,500) stand out as low-salaried righties. Gomber isn't all that tough on lefties, though, so don't sleep on Matt Olson ($3,200), who owns +400 odds to hit a home run.
- Philadelphia Phillies (4.68)
- My main differentiation point tonight will be to go light on the Phillies. I think Adam Oller (23.9% K rate in 16 1/3 MLB innings this year) isn't that bad, and the Phillies will likely be very popular. With that said, I know it could blow up in my face. Our MLB DFS projections think it will as we have Kyle Schwarber ($3,600) and Bryce Harper ($3,700) as the slate's top two bats.
- Washington Nationals (4.14)
- The Nats get a friendly matchup with Bailey Falter and have some easy-to-get-to salaries. Falter has struggled to a 4.86 SIERA and is giving up a 43.8% fly-ball rate to righties. Dylan Crews ($3,100), Andres Chaparro ($2,600) and Juan Yepez ($2,800) are appealing options as a mini-stack or as one-off plays. In a tiny sample of 27 plate appearances, Chaparro has a .360 wOBA versus lefties.
