Pitcher Breakdown
Mitch Keller ($10,400) is the only pitcher with a salary over $10,000 on the main slate. He isn't necessarily stellar in one particular stat this season and is pretty average for the main slate across the board, yet he now gets to inject that into a matchup with the Chicago White Sox, whose wRC+ against RHP the last 30 days is only 77. They're also top-10 in the split in K% (23.6%).
Nick Lodolo ($9,900) gets a fantastic matchup against the Miami Marlins. The lefty enters with a 3.57 SIERA and a 3.45 xERA, both main-slate bests. He's also the main slate leader in called-strike-plus-whiff rate (CSW%). That all grades out in any matchup -- but especially against Miami. The Marlins are owners of a 66 wRC+ the last 30 days and a 28.5% strikeout rate against lefties. It's hard to get a much better on-paper matchup than this one for Lodolo.
Jose Quintana ($8,700) also projects out well on a slate without a lot of high-salaried options at the pitcher position. He faces a Colorado Rockies team with a 79 wRC+ the last 30 days vs. LHP (and 86 on the full season).
Miles Mikolas ($7,900) rates out as a strikeout regression candidate. His CSW% suggests a K% of around 21.0%, up from his actual mark of 17.0%. The Chicago Cubs are sixth in K% against RHP.
Stacks to Target
Without much salary to use at pitcher, higher-salaried stacks are in play today.
- Philadelphia Phillies (5.93 implied total) -- Easily the highest implied total of the day in a matchup with righty Joey Estes and his 4.87 SIERA.
- Los Angeles Dodgers (5.26) -- Top of order is spendy with Shohei Ohtani but also ways to save here; getting Beau Brieske and a bullpen game.
- Cincinnati Reds (5.06) -- 102 wRC+ last 30 days vs. LHP; Trevor Rogers is allowing walks and hard contact for a 4.97 xERA.
- Pittsburgh Pirates (4.89) -- Nice value stack option as a secondary team; lefty Jared Shuster letting up fly balls and has a 5.19 xFIP.
