Turkey vs. Portugal Analysis

Both of these sides won their opening matches and did so in style, with expected goals (xG) numbers, per FBRef's model, backing up the results.

Portugal -- one of the tourney favorites, listed at +600 odds to win Euro 2024, the fifth-shortest odds -- came from behind to beat the Czech Republic by a 2-1 score. But going by xG, the Portuguese dominated, totaling 1.9 xG while giving up just 0.4 xG.

Turkey notched a 3-1 win over Georgia in an entertaining affair. The xG numbers were right in line, with Turkey prevailing 3.0-1.4 on xG.

Portugal demolished their group in qualifying, winning all eight matches, and they boast a squad as deep as any roster in this competition.

Turkey won their qualifying group, as well, suffering just one defeat (Croatia). The 3.0 xG they racked up against Georgia was a single-game high through the first round of group-stage matches.

Opta's model gives Portugal a 62.0% chance to win. A draw comes in at 20.3% odds while a Turkey win is just 17.8% likely.

MasseyRatings also favors Portugal but isn't quite as lopsided, putting Portugal's win odds at 57%.

The Euro 2024 odds at FanDuel Sportsbook may be slightly overvaluing Portugal at a -175 moneyline, which implies win odds of 63.6%.
