College Football Win Total Betting: What Does Arizona Have in Store for Next Season?

With action on the hardwood taking over the airwaves, college football will be (temporarily) put on the back burner. However, for those gridiron fans who want to get ahead of the game, FanDuel Sportsbook has gone live with 2024 college football win totals!

The Arizona Wildcats are an interesting program in this market. Going through a change at the top, can U of A continue recent improvements on the gridiron?

Incoming head coach Brent Brennan will lead the 'Cats in 2024. He succeeds outbound Jedd Fisch, who took the head coaching vacancy with the Washington Huskies. Brennan -- a former wide receiver for the UCLA Bruins -- comes to Tucson after propelling the San Jose State Spartans to relevancy.

Before spring ball gets up and running, let's dive into Arizona's 2024 regular-season win total odds at FanDuel Sportsbook and take a look at both perspectives -- the over and the under.

Why Arizona Could Win Over 8.5 Games (+138)

Transitioning from the Pac-12 to the Big 12, Arizona football should be in an advantageous position. Of course, the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners are departing the Big 12 for the SEC -- helter-skelter, right?

The Wildcats will have the luxury of returning quarterback Noah Fifita for his sophomore season. In 2023, Fifita earned Pac-12 Freshman Offensive Player of the Year honors behind a 25-to-6 TD-to-INT ratio. The Orange County, California native was superb through the air, boasting 9.3 adjusted yards per passing attempt. Fifita (5-foot-11) lacks height, but he can absolutely ball.

As noted, Coach Fisch left Tucson for Seattle after completion of the last campaign. Still, current Wildcats HC Brent Brennan brings an offensive emphasis. Most recently, Brennan had success with San Jose State quarterback Chevan Cordeiro, helping the signal-caller set the Mountain West's all-time completion record (971). Additionally, SJSU averaged 31.8 PPG in 2023.

The 'Cats are coming off a season in which they produced a top-20 scoring clip in FBS (34.6 PPG). Arizona receiver Tetairoa McMillan was a major part of that and is returning to the program for his junior year. The 6-foot-5 wideout has NFL potential and utilizes a solid rapport with Fifita -- they played their high school ball together in Anaheim.

In the previous campaign, U of A was also talented on defense. The Wildcats were quite stingy in 2023, allowing just 21.1 PPG. Going forward, they will have the benefit of bringing back linebacker Jacob Manu. A year ago, Manu paced 'Zona with 116 total tackles (9.5 tackles for a loss).

Simply, there will still be copious football talent in Tucson. So long as the players gel with the incoming coaching regime, Arizona will have a shot to get to nine wins.

Why Arizona Could Win Under 8.5 Games (-170)

U of A is entering new waters when diving into the Big 12. An institution of the Pac-12/10 dating back to 1978, Arizona will now find themselves traveling east far more often.

In 2024, the 'Zona is faced with a dozen games through the regular season. They'll start with two non-conference bids at home before opening Big 12 play in Manhattan, Kansas. There, Arizona will have a tough task of facing the Kansas State Wildcats on the road.

This 8.5-win total affords U of A just three losses of wiggle room. Winning nine of 12 contests requires premier effort and talent. Keep in mind: the Wildcats were exactly 9-3 after the most recent regular season. From there, we must remember that any conference championship or bowl game victory does not count toward this market.

Following 'Cats early trip to K-State, they'll head to Salt Lake City for an adversarial clash at the Utah Utes. It is not unlikely that Arizona drops back-to-back games in this instance, but that would essentially put the over on life support in this win-total market.

From there, 'Zona will need to respect quality sides in the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Brigham Young Cougars before hosting the Colorado Buffaloes. If Coach Prime's team -- whose win total we've already broken down -- returns further improved in 2024, that could spell trouble for U of A.

Getting Coach Brennan and sophomore signal-caller Fifita synergized will be the highest priority in Tucson.

Brennan is a great offensive mind, but it should be noted that he initially struggled upon arriving at San Jose State in 2017. After Brennan's first three seasons in Silicon Valley, the Spartans compiled an 8-29 record -- will he adapt more quickly to Power 5 football with a roster that is ready to win?

As alluded to, Arizona will be returning many prevalent contributors from the most recent campaign. However, one major Wildcat headed to the 2024 NFL Draft is edge rusher Taylor Upshaw. The 6-foot-4 defensive star was Arizona's best player in several stats, including sacks (8.5) and TFL (11.5). Upshaw will certainly leave a void to be addressed.

In short, there's a reason the under is the favored side here. For the over to hit, not only will Brennan need to hit the ground running, but the program will also need to adjust quickly to life in a new league.
