3 NHL Player Prop Bets to Target on Monday 11/6/23
Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.
Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.
Please note that betting lines and numberFire's projections may change throughout the day after this article is published. Also, the weather may be an issue in some locations.
Carter Verhaeghe To Score a Goal (+135)
The Florida Panthers have a big 3.76 implied goal total tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets, putting them in a spot for plenty of offense.
When it comes to defense, the Blue Jackets aren't playing much of it this season. They come in allowing a 68.25 Corsi Against (Total Shot Attempts Allowed) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fourth-worst in the league.
They are also allowing 2.80 Goals in the same situations, which is the 12th worst in the league and they should be allowing more goals according to their Expected Goals Allowed (xGA), which is up at 3.04. They are bad on defense and should actually be worse going forward.
When we look at the Panthers' offense, they have a 65.32 Corsi For (Total Shot Attempts Created) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is good for the seventh-best in the league. They like to take a ton of shot and keep up the offensive pressure.
One of those players taking a ton of shots is Carter Verhaeghe, who is a winger on the second forward line and the first power-play unit. He comes in with a very solid 14 shots on goal over his last four games, but no goals.
Yet another offensive-minded player who has been held without a goal in his recent games, which is my favorite spot to look for a goal prop. He's shooting the puck at a high rate and simply not scoring, that changes tonight.
Evan Bouchard To Record 1+ Power-Play Points (+145)
With a 6.5 over/under and heavy juice (-150) on the over, we should see plenty of scoring between the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks.
Given the level of skill on both sides, this matchup is going to be all about the offense tonight and we want to capture that via some player props.
We'll turn to Evan Bouchard, who is the defender on the first power-play for the Oilers. On that first power-play, we see both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, two of the absolute best players in the world.
To this point in the season, Bouchard has a total of 10 NHL points, with 6 of them coming on the power play. This is very encouraging to see considering he doesn't even need to score a goal to cash this prop, a simple assist will suffice.
For the Canucks, they have the 11th most (122) penalty minutes this season and sit in the bottom half of the league in penalty kill percentage (78.0%).
The Oilers have a prime chance to get some goals on the board, putting Bouchard in a spot to grab a power-play point.
William Nylander To Score a Goal (+125)
The Toronto Maple Leafs need a big game to break a four-game losing streak and need their best players to step up.
William Nylander is one of those players for the Maple Leafs in need of a big game, after posting 17 shots on goal over his last three games and not scoring. He maintains his role on the second forward line and the first power-play unit, giving him plenty of offensive equity.
The matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning is actually a good one, as they are allowing 2.95 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the ninth-worst in the league.
Nylander also has the Lightning's number in recent games. Last season, Nylander posted 3 goals, 3 assists, and 19 shots on goal in three games against Tampa Bay. This year, he's off to a similar start with one goal, one assist, and six shots on goal in one game.
He's got things figured out against them and with his shot volume, he's due for a goal.
