Pitchers coming to the plate in a key spot is one of the most painful sights for a baseball fan (unless you have Madison Bumgarner, that is). When that crucial spot happens to be in a playoff game against all-time great Clayton Kershaw? Fans are usually counting the out before the first pitch is thrown.
Brandon Woodruff had different plans in Game 1 of the 2018 NLCS, however.
Leading off the bottom of the third with his Milwaukee Brewers down 1-0 to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Woodruff did a solid job working the count to 2-2. He then absolutely smashed the next pitching, blasting it 407 feet for a game-tying homer. That was only the 23rd postseason home run hit by a pitcher.
That run really counted, too. The Brewers ended up winning that game by a final score of 6-5. They went on to lose the series, but Woodruff going yard against Kershawn in a crucial playoff game remains one of the greatest moments in Brewers franchise history.
