The Detroit Lions finally ended the Matt Patricia era, and it couldn't have come soon enough. Now, the attention is focused on who the 5-7 Lions will hire as their next head coach. One potential candidate's odds have skyrocketed after the opening odds were released by FanDuel Sportsbook.
Oddsmakers now have Michiagn Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh at +200 to be the next Lions head coach, shooting him up to be tied with Robert Saleh as the favorite to land the position.
It's incredibly interesting that Harbaugh's odds have improved from +1100 just a couple of days ago, signaling that oddsmakers think Harbaugh has an inside line on the job.
A marriage between Harbaugh and the Lions makes sense, though. The head coach spent much of his life in Michigan and played quarterback for the Wolverines before taking over as the program's head coach. He knows all about the state's hard-nosed mentality.
Harbaugh is known for creating tough teams with a strong-minded culture. He could help give the Lions an identity after years of mediocrity and slapping pieces together.
While Harbaugh's Michigan tenure will likely end on a sour note, he was successful with the San Francisco 49ers, building top-10 defenses in each of his four seasons and making the Super Bowl in 2012. He could be the coach to turn the Lions around.
