The Washington Redskins franchise has hit a rough patch of late, but their long history is not an unsuccessful one. The team has won five NFL titles, including three in the Super Bowl era, and has had some really memorable quarterbacks.

The three quarterbacks in particular stand out ahead of the pack.

3. Sonny Jurgensen (1964-74)

Sonny Jurgensen was already a First-Team All-Pro and NFL Champion when he switched over from the Philadelphia Eagles to Washington Redskins. He added another First-Team selection with Washington, as well as four Pro Bowls and three NFL passing titles. Jurgensen was even the NFL passer rating leader in 1967, and he was named a member of the NFL 60's All-Decade Team. He is second in total passing yards for the franchise and is a member of the Redskins Ring of Fame.

2. Joe Theismann (1974-85)

The 1983 NFL MVP, Joe Theismann was under center for one of the three Super Bowl champions the franchise has won. He is Washington's all-time passing leader and holds a 77-47 record as the starting quarterback. His '83 season was his best one, also winning Offensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Pro honors. Otherwise he was a Pro Bowler twice, NFL Man of the Year once and eventually a member of the Redskins Ring of Fame.

1. Sammy Baugh (1937-52)

This player goes back to the dawning age of American football, and the early stages of the Washington franchise. Sammy Baugh changed the sport and was one of the first great NFL passing quarterbacks. "Slingin Sammy" led the NFL in passing yards four times and in completion percentage eight times in his 16-year career. He won two NFL Championships with the Redskins before the Super Bowl era began, and although his stats may no jump out due to the time period, Baugh was the real deal. A seven-time First-Team All-Pro player, two-time NFL Player of the Year, member of the 1940's All-Decade Team, member of the NFL 100th Anniversary Team and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Baugh's list of accomplishments is a long one.
