The San Francisco Giants have been one of the biggest surprises in the MLB so far this season. They leading the NL West at 37-21, a division expected to be dominated by the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021. And Evan Longoria has been a big part of that success.
Aside from his veteran leadership, Longoria is hitting .280 this season with 9 home runs and 30 RBI.
Giants News: Evan Longoria Injury
However, Longoria exited Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs following a collision with teammate Brandon Crawford. While Crawford was able to stay in the game, Longoria had to sit the rest of the contest out. Although, the silver lining is he was able to walk out on his own.
According to manager Gabe Kapler, Longoria suffered a shoulder injury and is set to be reevaluated before a final decision is made on the severity of the injury, or if an IL stint is required.
Losing Longoria for an extended period of time will be a tough blow to a Giants team that is rolling right now. San Francisco fans will hope they can avoid the latter entirely and Longoria can be back at third base shortly.
