The Cincinnati Bengals will be forced to make a change at the safety position after starter Ricardo Allen went down during Week 1 with hand and hamstring injuries. The team has announced that he will be placed on the injured reserve and that it has signed veteran Sean Davis to the practice squad.
Allen is a big loss for the Bengals as he was one of their top free-agent signings of the offseason. The seventh-year pro signed a one-year deal in Cincinnati back in February. His broken hand is what will cause him to miss at least the next three weeks of action.
Overall, Allen has racked up 345 tackles, 26 pass breakups and 11 interceptions over the course of 78 career games played. He appeared in 25% of the defensive snaps and 56% of the special team snaps in Week 1 (5 tackles).
Meanwhile, Davis is getting another shot to make an impact at the NFL level after he was waived by the Indianapolis Colts earlier this week. The 27-year-old spent the first five seasons of his career in Pittsburgh, where he posted 259 tackles and 5 interceptions in 65 games played (42 starts).
The Bengals will look to keep their winning ways going when they match up against the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon. Cincinnati is currently a 1.5-point road underdog in that game, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
