WNBA Best Bets

Las Vegas Aces at Dallas Wings

Wings +8.5 (-108)

While the Las Vegas Aces score a lot of points, they're far from playing their best basketball of the season quite yet. That's why I believe the Dallas Wings can keep the game close enough with how they score on a game-to-game basis.

The Aces carry the highest expectations of any team in the WNBA -- reasonably so, considering they've gone back-to-back as champions. But with the Aces opening the season at 4-2, it's clear that beyond their stars, the team is still looking for answers. Las Vegas is the highest-scoring team in the league with 86.5 points per game, yet their +5.8 plus/minus average shows they haven't reached anywhere close to blowout status in their games. It's why I have the Wings covering at +8.5 (-108) tonight.

Dallas has dropped two straight games to the Connecticut Sun and the Minnesota Lynx. The loss to the Sun was by a basket, however, which gives me reason to believe that if they can hang with the 9-0 Sun, they can hang with the inconsistent Aces.

Limiting A'ja Wilson -- who is at -130 odds to win the WNBA MVP -- won't be easy for the Wings, but they have the offense to match her. Arike Ogunbowale is the league's leading scorer so far, averaging 26.6 points per game. Dallas is going to need every part of her scoring along with the help of Monique Billings, Maddy Siegrist, and Teaira McCowan.

It will be difficult without Natasha Howard and Satou Sabally, both of which are out for some time. Having homecourt tonight will only help them.

The Wings are averaging 82.6 points, a number that should help them keep up with Vegas' high-octane offense.

Minnesota Lynx at Los Angeles Sparks

Lynx -7.5 (-108)

The Minnesota Lynx have made their mark on the WNBA already this season. They should take care of business tonight against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Minnesota is 6-2 through their first eight games of the campaign, showing dominance multiple times -- including against the New York Liberty. The only losses for the Lynx this season were against the Sun and the Aces -- two of the WNBA's elite.

Over their last two games, Minnesota has played some of their best basketball. The Lynx beat the Phoenix Mercury by 24 and then followed that up with a 9-point win over the Wings.

Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride will be counted on once again to lead Minnesota.

Collier has been a force on the court, averaging 21.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.8 blocks through eight games. Slowing her down has been a challenge for all teams, and it should continue tonight -- even with someone like Cameron Brink protecting the rim. Collier is third in the current WNBA MVP odds (+750).

McBride has been great, too, with an average of 16.0 points and shooting 49.1% from beyond the arc.

The Sparks don't have answers for those two. With the Lynx averaging the second-most points in the league at 86.4 and the Sparks down to 77.3 (10th), I'm taking Minnesota to cover on the road.
