Who Will Pace France in Goals at Euro 2024?

The 2024 European Championship kicks off in Germany next week, and the stage is set for a thrilling tournament.

FanDuel Sportsbook is offering several different ways to bet on the tourney, including who will be the top goal-scorer for certain teams.

Today, we're going to look at France, who have the second-best odds to win the event (+340), according to the Euro 2024 odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Les Bleus were drawn into Group D alongside the Netherlands (seventh in FIFA's World Rankings), Austria (25th), and Poland (28th).

Here are the full odds in the market as well as a breakdown of the current favorites.

Euro 2024 Odds

France Team Top Goalscorer
FanDuel Sportsbook Odds
Kylian Mbappe-200
Antoine Griezmann+700
Olivier Giroud+750
Ousmane Dembele+1600
Kinglsey Coman+1800
Marcus Thuram+1800
Bradley Barcola+2300

Kylian Mbappe (-200)

Kylian Mbappe is the current favorite to win the Golden Boot, listed at +470 in FanDuel's Euro 2024 Golden Boot odds, so it should come as no surprise that he is favored to lead France in goals, as well.

Whatever you are looking for in a forward, Mbappe has it.

Success for club? Check.

In 41 games for PSG this season, Mbappe scored 35 goals from 29.0 expected goals -- per FBRef. Compared to other forwards over the last 365 days on a per-90 basis, he ranks in the 95th percentile or better in non-penalty goals (0.72), shots (4.45), shot-creating actions (4.36), and successful take-ons (2.70). He has at least 34 goals in each of his last four seasons and has won the League 1's Golden Boot six seasons in a row. With his long-awaited move to Real Madrid officially completed, Mbappe enters Euro 2024 with no distractions.

Success for country? Check.

In his two appearances at the World Cup, Mbappe won the tournament (2018) and finished second (2022). He was goalless in his first and only Euros in 2020, but that is an anomaly given his record of success for Les Blues. At the World Cup, he has 12 goals in 14 appearances -- four shy of the record of 16. He won the Golden Boot in 2022, a campaign that included a hat trick against Argentina in the final.

France was undefeated in qualifying and finished second in goals/90 (3.38) behind only Portugal (3.60). France's roster features several talented forwards, but there is only one Mbappe. As a bonus, he'll take penalties, too.

Antoine Griezmann (+700)

If someone other than Mbappe is going to lead France in goals this summer, it could be Antoine Griezmann.

In 43 appearances for Atletico Madrid this season across La Liga and the Champions League, Griezmann scored 22 goals from just 16.5 xG. His 16 goals in La Liga ranked seventh overall in the league and second among midfielders, behind only Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham (19).

Griezmann has been a consistent part of Les Blues since the 2014 World Cup. He backed that up for with a virtuoso performance at the Euros in 2016, scoring six goals in seven starts to take home the Golden Boot. Since then, he has started all but one of France's 18 games at the last three major tournaments (2018, 2022 World Cup and 2020 Euros) -- with five goals and five assists in that time.

Early in his career, Griezmann played several different positions for France, but since Mbappe's arrival, he has been playing attacking or center-mid. Operating at the center of an attack that includes Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, and Ousmane Dembele, Griezmann is not short on options to pass the ball to. While that is good for France, it isn't ideal for Griezmann's individual goal-scoring outlook. In the 2022 World Cup, Griezmann ranked 76th in xG (0.7) but first in expected assists (3.1). His xG total was well behind both Mbappe's (5.2) and Giroud's (3.4).

Olivier Giroud (+750)

At 37 years old, Olivier Giroud had 15 goals from 15.2 xG for AC Milan in Serie A this past campaign -- his third season in a row with at least 11 goals. When allowed to start, he has proven time and time again to be a consistent goal-scoring threat at every stop in his 15-year career, amassing 183 goals in 463 appearances.

That, of course, also applies to his time with the national team -- Giroud is France's all-time leading goal scorer (57). At the 2018 World Cup, he went goalless on 13 shots despite starting six of seven matches. That changed in a big way in 2022, when he turned six starts into four goals, including the winner against England in the quarter-finals.

While Griezmann is usually facilitating behind France's talented attack, Giroud gets to play at the front of it. He directly benefits from the attention defenses must dedicate to Mbappe, freeing up space for Giroud to do what he does best -- finish.

Outscoring Mbappe is a lofty task -- especially given Mbappe's role on penalties -- but Giroud has the combination of ability and opportunity to lead France in goals if things fall his way.
