Oakland Athletics Odds to Win the World Series

The Oakland Athletics seem to be living out the plot of Major League (1989) right before our very eyes. With no promised home venue after the 2024 season, much about John Fisher's team is in flux.

Per the World Series odds at FanDuel Sportsbook, what are the A's odds to win the World Series this season?

Oakland is listed at +50000 to win the World Series, which is tied for the longest odds on the board.

Let's take a look at what we can expect from the Athletics in 2024.

All MLB odds come from FanDuel Sportsbook.

A's Analysis

If 2024 really is to be the A's final campaign playing in the East Bay, I don't imagine the franchise will go out with a bang.

Not only is there a cantankerous rift between ownership and the Oakland fanbase, but the on-field product has not been much better. Playing in the American League's third-oldest active stadium, the Athletics managed to lose 112 contests in 2023 -- that is their largest figure in the L column dating back over a century.

For the coming campaign, the A's are geared behind two players with explosive tendencies. Oakland seems to have found a right-handed version of Matt Olson via the 6-foot-4 Brent Rooker. The Mississippi State alum smashed 30 home runs while posting an .817 OPS for the A's in 2023.

Providing blinding speed, Esteury Ruiz is a rangy second-year center fielder. Naturally, Ruiz is most dangerous when on the base. Last year, he compiled 67 steals, which is the fifth-highest total by any MLB rookie since 1890. Still, Ruiz experienced struggles in the batter's box as a rook, showcasing a lowly .290 wOBA. For a player with his sort of speed, that latter number needs to be elevated.

A year ago, the Athletics were keen on Japanese pitching sensation Shintaro Fujinami, but Oakland has since shipped off the right-handed hurler via trade. Additionally, utility man Tony Kemp -- who was the final remaining player from the A's last playoff run in 2020 -- recently signed with the Cincinnati Reds to a minor-league deal.

Seemingly, for whatever fans are in attendance this year at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, it will be tough to recognize any familiar faces. Regardless, roster reshuffling is an aspect the East Bay has grown accustomed to with this franchise.

Transparently, it can be pesky to gauge the Athletics going into this season. FanDuel Sportsbook has set Oakland's 2024 win total at an eye-popping 57.5 games (-120/-102). For MLB win totals, that number is the lowest posted figure of the decade.

Still, if you are into exorbitant long-shot wagers, you can get the A's at 500-to-1 odds to win the upcoming Fall Classic. Keep in mind, Oakland will be dueling divisional foes like the Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners and defending-champion Texas Rangers on a regular basis.

Still, crazier things have happened in life, I'm sure. I would not be able to tell you what they are off the top of my head, though ...
