NHL Betting Picks and Player Props to Target: Monday 2/19/24

Whether it's moneylines, total goals, or player props, there are plenty of ways to bet on the NHL action all season long.

It's a long 82-game season, meaning that the best selections of each night can be very different based on backup goalies coming into play, injuries that add up, and if teams are due for positive or negative swings.

Let's dive into the best bets for today.

NHL Best Bets

Detroit Red Wings at Seattle Kraken

Under 6.5 (-128)

The Detroit Red Wings wrap up a trip to the northwest against the Seattle Kraken today on ESPN.

The Red Wings are coming off of a 5-0 shutout win and rank sixth in the league in goals per game (3.48), but the underlying data is less enticing.

Detroit ranks 26th in expected goals for per 60 minutes (2.86), according to NaturalStatTrick. Their gap in goals for per 60 and expected goals for per 60 (+0.54) is second-largest in the NHL.

As for the Kraken, they're only 28th in goals per game (2.78). At home, they have only a 2.64 expected goals for per game rate. They also let up only 9.6 high-danger chances per game at home, per NaturalStatTrick. That's second-fewest in the NHL.

numberFire's views this matchup as 58.0% likely to stay under 6.5 goals.

Vegas Golden Knights at San Jose Sharks

Over 5.5 (-128)

Though the San Jose Sharks are generating just 2.65 expected goals for per 60 minutes at home, they're letting up 3.54, second-most in the NHL. That's translated to 3.56 goals allowed per game at home, third-most in the NHL.

As for the Vegas Golden Knights, their road offense is average at 3.08 goals per game, but they let up 3.23 per game.

The Sharks don't score much, but their leaky defense should put Vegas in scoring position here.

Along with the angle of the over, we can look to Jonathan Marchessault to score (+120). numberFire's NHL projections anticipate 0.54 goals for him in this spot.

Ottawa Senators at Tampa Bay Lightning

Over 6.5 (-154)

Lighting To Win (-156)

The Tampa Bay Lightning will look to bounce back from a 9-2 loss to the Florida Panthers.

The Lightning are 30-21-5 overall and 18-6-3 at home. They've scored 56.4% of goals in their home matchups, which makes their seven-goal loss look like even more of an outlier.

The Ottawa Senators are 22-27-2 overall and only 7-14-0 on the road with a goal share rate of 46.6% in those games.

That's a pretty big gap.

numberFire's model likes this game to get to seven-plus goals at a 65.0% clip and considers the Lighting to be big favorites (74.3% likely to win).

Pairing the angle of the Lightning and the over, Steven Stamkos' goal prop is +140. numberFire's model projects him for 0.60 goals, a top-three number on the entire slate.
