NBA Draft No. 1 Pick Betting Odds: Can the Hornets Claim the Top Pick?

We're a few months out from the NBA Draft Lottery (May 12th), and this year's draft is particularly uncertain with regards to who the top pick will be.

For that reason, it's not just the first overall pick that could hold the keys to a big-time turnaround for NBA squads.

So, while this year's draft isn't all about the top spot, we do have betting odds on who will earn that number-one overall pick via the NBA Draft lottery odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

NBA Draft Lottery Betting Odds

Here is how the market for the team to draw the number-one overall pick for the 2024 NBA Draft looks.

It stands to reason that the Pistons, Spurs, and Wizards have the same betting odds to earn the top overall pick, given the structure of the NBA Draft Lottery allotting each of the bottom-three teams a 14.0% chance to earn the number-one pick.

Pick four holds a 12.5% chance to get the top selection, which is where the Hornets find themselves now.

With the Wizards and Pistons still in the single digits in the win column, the question is mostly whether the Spurs (13-48) and Hornets (15-46) can swap places -- and precious probability points -- by the end of the season.

Currently, the Hornets' win total is set at 19.5 -- with -122 odds on the over. That means a 20-win season is very much in the cards. However, they've lost four straight games and are 5-5 in their past 10 contests.

San Antonio's win total is set at 18.5 (with -118 odds on the under). But they've won two straight games -- each by double-digit margins (14 and 12 points). They are 3-7 in their past 10 games.

ESPN's NBA projections view the race for a top-three probability very closely. The Hornets are projected for 19.3 wins with the Spurs at 19.2.

numberFire's NBA win total model also anticipates a race within a single win: Charlotte is projected for 19.9 wins with San Antonio at 19.0 by season's end.
