Tigers place Kerry Carpenter (back) on injured list Wednesday
The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder Kerry Carpenter on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with lower back soreness.
What It Means
Carpenter started feeling soreness in his back over the weekend and he's unsure how long he will be out. The Tigers recalled Akil Baddoo from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding roster move. Wenceel Perez will start in right field and bat leadoff in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against right-hander Jared Jones and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Matt Vierling will man the middle of the outfield and bat second. Mark Canha will serve as Detroit's designated hitter and cleanup batter.
numberFire's models project Perez for 10.2 and Vierling for 8.5 FanDuel points on Wednesday. Canha is projected for 12.4 FanDuel points and he's currently our fourth-best point-per-dollar value among batters. Per our MLB Heat Map, the Tigers' implied total (3.48) is currently fifth-lowest on the board and the game total (6.5) is the lowest of the day. Among Wednesday's listed starters, Jones has the third-best strikeout rate (29.4%) and fifth-best walk rate (4.3%) this season.
