Jon Berti (calf) placed on Yankees' injured list; Kevin Smith selected

Berti left Friday night's game early after going down while running out of the box. He had to be helped off the field, and he's now been placed on the injured list due to a left calf strain. Infielder Kevin Smith, who had been on a minor-league deal with the Yankees organization, has been called up to the major-league roster.

In 60 plate appearances this season, Berti has a .273 batting average with a .649 OPS.
