MLB Same Game Parlay Bets for Tuesday 5/28/24

Pittsburgh Pirates at Detroit Tigers

Jared Jones to Record 6+ Strikeouts (-200)
Tarik Skubal to Record 7+ Strikeouts (-290)
Detroit Tigers ML (-154)

Combined Odds: +222

For those who are fans of watching elite pitching, we'll be treated to a matchup between Jared Jones and Tarik Skubal when the Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers begin a two-game series on Tuesday. Across his first 10 starts in his rookie campaign, Jones is sporting a fantastic 2.82 SIERA and 2.91 xFIP along with an impressive 17.9% swinging-strike rate.

Jones is flashing plenty of upside in the strikeout department, ranking in the 95th percentile in chase rate (35.6%), 96th percentile in whiff rate (35.5%), and 86th percentile in strikeout rate (29.4%). Aside from Jones logging six-plus Ks in seven of his 10 outings, the Tigers are recording the ninth-highest strikeout rate (23.8%) against right-handed pitching.

On the flip side, Skubal has the shortest odds to win the American League Cy Young (+270) with a pristine 2.59 SIERA and 2.55 xFIP through 10 starts in 2024. Skubal is currently in the 91st percentile in chase rate (34.3%), 87th percentile in whiff rate (31.4%), and 90th percentile in strikeout rate (31.2%) while the Pirates are striking out often versus southpaws thus far.

When taking on left-handed pitchers, Pittsburgh is registering the third-highest strikeout rate (25.3%) in that split. While Skubal has achieved seven-plus strikeouts in only four of his 10 appearances, the matchup is tough to ignore for the talented lefty at home.

Despite the Tigers boasting a losing record, Skubal owns a 5-1 record, and the team has gone 6-4 in his 10 starts. Jones has recorded a 3-4 record, and the Pirates are 4-6 in his 10 times taking the mound this season.

Cleveland Guardians at Colorado Rockies

Jose Ramirez to Record an RBI (-120)
Ryan McMahon to Record an RBI (+130)

Combined Odds: +319

The Cleveland Guardians are set to take on the Colorado Rockies for the second game of a three-game series on Tuesday, and both teams are holding implied run totals of nearly five entering the contest. With both teams expected to have success at the plate, we'll back a hitter from each team who has been swinging the bat well in recent outings.

Jose Ramirez is slated to face Ryan Feltner and the dismal bullpen of the Rockies in this one. Ramirez has at least one hit in six of his last seven games -- with four multi-hit performances in that span -- while recording at least one RBI in six consecutive games.

Feltner is giving up a .337 wOBA, .438 SLG, and 1.43 WHIP to left-handed batters this season. Once Feltner exits the contest, he'll give way to a bullpen that has the worst SIERA (4.55), WHIP (1.62), and the second-lowest strikeout rate (17.8%).

The hitter we want to focus on from the Rockies is Ryan McMahon with Triston McKenzie getting the nod for the Guardians. Through 10 starts in 2024, McKenzie is permitting a .341 wOBA, .457 SLG, and 2.22 HR/9 to lefties, compared to a .284 wOBA, .286 SLG, and 0.75 HR.9 to righties.

McMahon is tallying a .349 wOBA, .455 SLG, and 112 wRC+ against right-handed pitching, and he's logged at least one RBI in seven of his last 12 appearances. Being that this game takes place at Coors Field, it's worth mentioning that Ramirez has +360 odds to hit a home run while McMahon has +390 odds in the same market on Dinger Tuesday.

New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels

Anthony Volpe to Record a Hit (-250)
Juan Soto to Record 2+ Total Bases (-120)
New York Yankees Over 4.5 Total Runs (-146)

Combined Odds: +230

The New York Yankees are poised to score a decent number of runs with Griffin Canning expected to draw the start for the Los Angeles Angels. We'll be fading Canning and the Angels in this SGP, beginning with Anthony Volpe to record a hit.

Volpe is amid a league-high 19-game hit streak, and he's performing slightly better versus right-handed pitchers. At the moment, Volpe is rocking a .357 wOBA, .359 OBP, and 134 wRC+ against righties, compared to a .326 wOBA, .345 OBP, and 113 wRC+ against lefties.

Canning has struggled more against lefties this season, allowing a .399 wOBA, .561 SLG, 1.71 WHIP, and 2.20 HR/9 in that split. Therefore, taking Juan Soto to record two-plus bases seems like an ideal wager in this contest.

Soto is raking when facing right-handed pitching, logging a .433 wOBA, .287 ISO, and 186 wRC+ against that handedness. Hard contact isn't a rarity for Canning, who is in the sixth percentile in average exit velocity (91.4 MPH), 18th percentile in barrel rate (9.8%), and 30th percentile in hard-hit rate (41.7%).

Ahead of Tuesday's clash, Soto is being given +255 odds to hit a home run.

Given Canning's woes on the bump, we'll also back the Yankees to score five-plus runs. New York has plated five-plus runs in 12 of their 24 games in May while Canning has surrendered three-plus earned runs in five of his 10 starts.
