MLB Same Game Parlay Bets for Monday 6/17/24

Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates

Paul Skenes Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-150)
Cincinnati Reds Alternate Total Runs: Under 4.5 (-220)
Bryan Reynolds to Record a Run (-175)

Combined Odds: +258

Attacking the Cincinnati Reds with right-handed pitchers has been a fruitful strategy in the strikeout market this season. That makes Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates an enticing pitcher to target for Ks on Monday.

The exciting, hard-throwing righty has wowed in his first six starts for the Pirates, ranking in the 75th percentile in chase rate (31.0%), 88th percentile in whiff rate (31.1%), and 97th percentile in strikeout rate (35.4%). Skenes has compiled eight-plus Ks in four of his six outings, and the Reds have the third-highest strikeout rate (26.4%) against right-handed pitching.

It should be noted that Bryse Wilson and Colin Rea -- who both have strikeout rates of 18.8% or lower -- tallied six strikeouts against Cincinnati in recent games. In the last seven days, the Reds are registering the fourth-highest strikeout rate (26.1%).

Along with backing Skenes to rack up Ks, we'll take him and Pittsburgh's bullpen to hold Cincinnati to fewer than five runs. Skenes has yet to surrender more than three earned runs in a start while the Reds have scored fewer than five runs in seven of their last eight contests.

Lastly, we'll take Bryan Reynolds to record a run for the Pirates. Reynolds is heating up at the plate as he's maintaining a 14-game hit streak entering Monday's NL Central showdown.

Carson Spiers is the projected starter for the Reds after making five relief appearances and zero starts in 2024. Aside from Spiers allowing a .303 wOBA, 1.30 WHIP, and 4.49 xFIP to lefties, Reynolds has crossed home plate in seven of his last 11 games.

San Diego Padres at Philadelphia Phillies

Kyle Schwarber to Record 2+ Total Bases (-105)
Bryce Harper to Record an RBI (+105)

Combined Odds: +283

Randy Vasquez is expected to make his ninth start of the campaign for the San Diego Padres, and he's been dismal against left-handed hitters. Left-handed bats are producing a massive .513 wOBA, .707 SLG, and 3.18 HR/9, compared to a .312 wOBA, .440 SLG, and 1.33 HR/9 by righties versus Vasquez.

With those splits in mind, we'll want to target the lefties from the Philadelphia Phillies in this SGP. Kyle Schwarber should bat leadoff against a right-handed starter while he's been seeing the ball well with two-plus bases in five of his last seven contests.

Even though Schwarber boasts a forgettable .319 wOBA and 29.5% strikeout rate versus right-handed pitching, he has a .205 ISO and 49.0% flyball rate in that split. Being that Vasquez is only logging an 11.3% strikeout rate when facing left-handed hitters, this is a chance for Schwarber to swing freely at the plate.

On the other hand, we'll place confidence in Bryce Harper to record an RBI. Trea Turner is expected to make his return from the injured list on Monday, and Schwarber has been getting on base more consistently in recent games, which gives Harper a better chance of tallying an RBI.

Harper is sporting a .381 wOBA, .242 ISO, 148 wRC+, and just a 19.7% strikeout rate to right-handed pitchers. Given Vasquez's tendency to give up the long ball, it's worth mentioning that Schwarber has +220 odds to hit a home run while Harper has +300 odds in the same market.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies

Freddie Freeman to Record an RBI (-130)
Ezequiel Tovar to Record an RBI (+140)

Combined Odds: +315

The highest projected run total (12) on Monday's slate of games unsurprisingly comes from the impending matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. Plenty of runs should be manufactured in this contest with James Paxton and Cal Quantrill on the bump.

Quantrill isn't a pitcher who generates many swing and misses, sitting in the 19th percentile in chase rate (24.7%), 26th percentile in whiff rate (21.6%), and 16th percentile in strikeout rate (17.2%). Additionally, Quantrill will face the Dodgers for the second time in his last four starts, making Freddie Freeman a player we want to target.

Freeman is crushing right-handed pitching to the tune of a .433 wOBA, .249 ISO, and 187 wRC+. The All-Star first baseman has also tallied a hit in six consecutive games, and he'll need to step up with Mookie Betts expected to miss time due to a fractured hand.

Placing confidence in a hitter on the Rockies can be risky, but Paxton has been hit hard by righties, and Ezequiel Tovar has excelled versus southpaws in 2024. Paxton is permitting a .328 wOBA, 5.93 xFIP, 1.49 WHIP, and 1.32 HR/9 with a 44.0% flyball rate against right-handed bats.

Despite striking out at a 30.2% rate versus lefties, Tovar is rocking a formidable .330 wOBA and .200 ISO against that handedness. Paxton is also producing a mere 12.8% strikeout rate to righties.

With warm temps at Coors Field, Freeman is being given +300 odds to hit a home run while Tovar holds +430 odds in the same market.
