Los Angeles Chargers Draft Texas Christian WR Quentin Johnston 21st Overall

As of Thursday morning, FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL Draft odds considered TCU WR Quentin Johnston to be the third-most likely receiver to be the first one off the board (+1000).

While he wasn't first, he was second when the Los Angeles Chargers drafted him 21st overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Quentin Johnston NFL Draft Profile

At 6'4" and 208 pounds, Quentin Johnston has some pretty dominant size among his historical peers.

Along with that size, he offered some explosion, including a yards-per-catch rate of 17.8 or greater in each of the past three seasons, but it's not a perfect profile.

According to my NFL prospect database -- which accounts for athleticism, production, size, draft capital, age, and more historically important variables -- here are Johnston's top five comparable players.

  1. Alec Pierce - 92.4%
  2. DeVante Parker - 92.0%
  3. Denzel Mims - 91.8%
  4. Tee Higgins - 91.7%
  5. AJ Green - 90.9%

Quentin Johnston in Los Angeles

Based on yards per catch and missed tackle numbers, Johnston has the potential to take the Chargers' offense to the next level.

Via PFF, he ranked 19th in screen yards and 23rd in deep yards in the nation in 2022.

It's hard to see any pass-catcher get paired up with Justin Herbert and see it as a negative.

Los Angeles Chargers 2023 Outlook

The Chargers are firmly in championship contention with +2500 odds to win the Super Bowl, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.

They're also -102 to make the playoffs and have a win total of 9.5 (with -105 odds on the over).
