The Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers square off Friday night in an intriguing Western Conference matchup between two teams enjoying strong starts to the 2026-27 NBA season. Los Angeles enters at 7-2 while Portland is 6-1 and already owns a victory over the Lakers this season.

With Luka Doncic playing at an MVP-caliber level and Portland presenting a legitimate challenge, there are some interesting betting opportunities ahead of the 10:00 p.m. ET tipoff. Here are two Lakers vs. Trail Blazers best bets, including a player prop.

Lakers Moneyline (-142)

The Lakers have won three consecutive games, with Luka Doncic scoring at least 40 points in each contest. He is averaging an NBA-leading 38.5 points per game, along with 8.1 rebounds and 8.0 assists, while shooting 43.1% from three-point range. Los Angeles is averaging 122.5 points per game and has covered the spread in six of its first nine contests.

Portland has been excellent, too, opening the season 6-1 and winning 136-129 in Los Angeles not too long ago.

However, the Lakers have found their rhythm offensively, and Doncic's recent form gives them a strong chance to avenge that loss.

With Los Angeles playing at home and riding a three-game winning streak, I am backing the Lakers to win outright.

Doncic's scoring has understandably received most of the attention, but his playmaking has been outstanding, as well.

He's averaging 8.0 assists in 35.7 minutes per game through eight appearances, comfortably above Friday's 6.5-assist line. He also recorded nine assists against Portland earlier this season.

The Trail Blazers have the defensive personnel to make scoring difficult for Doncic, which could push him to distribute the ball more frequently.

With Portland capable of keeping this game competitive (spread is 2.5), Doncic should have an opportunity to play his usual heavy minutes. His combination of playing time, ball-handling responsibilities, and season-long assist production makes this an appealing player prop.

NBA Betting Frequently Asked Questions

What is the point spread in NBA betting?

The point spread is a handicap applied to the favored team to level the playing field. For example, if the Lakers are -6.5 against the Celtics, the Lakers must win by 7 or more points for a bet on them to pay out. A bet on the Celtics wins if Boston wins outright or loses by 6 points or fewer.

What does the moneyline mean in NBA betting?

A moneyline bet is a straight-up wager on which team wins — no spread involved. Odds use American format: a favorite is listed with a minus sign (e.g., -180), meaning a wager of $180 would win $100. An underdog carries a plus sign (e.g., +155), meaning a $100 bet would return $155 profit.

What is an over/under (total) bet in the NBA?

FanDuel will set a projected combined score for both teams. You bet whether the actual total points will go Over or Under that number. For example, if the total is 224.5, an Over bet wins if both teams combine for 225 or more points.

What are NBA player props?

Player prop bets focus on individual statistical performances rather than game outcomes. Common NBA props include points scored, rebounds, assists, three-pointers made, steals, and combined stat lines (e.g., Points + Rebounds + Assists). You bet whether the player goes Over or Under the sportsbook's posted line.
