Kyle Kuzma Re-Signs With Washington: What Are the Wizards' Title Odds?

After missing the playoffs for the fourth time in five years, the Washington Wizards hit the reset button this offseason, beginning a rebuild. Re-signing forward Kyle Kuzma to a four-year, $102 million contract marks the start of a new era in Washington.

Washington also acquired guard Jordan Poole in a trade with the Golden State Warriors, giving the Wizards a young duo to center their rebuild around.

Will Kuzma Continue to Improve?

Last season, Kuzma's second with the Wizards, the former first-round draft pick had the best statistical performance of his career. On a per 36-minute basis, he set career highs in points (21.8), three-pointers made (2.6) and attempted (7.7), and two-point field goal percentage (53.3%). He tied his career high in assists (3.8).

Playing 35.0 minutes per game, Kuzma built on his solid first season in Washington, improving in several categories while playing alongside Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis.

With Beal now on the Phoenix Suns and Porzingis with the Boston Celtics, Kuzma will have a chance to take another step and be the center of the Wizards' 2023-24 season. Washington will be hoping the additional opportunity comes with continued improvement.

Betting Odds Impact

The Wizards' moves to re-sign Kuzma haven't moved the needle in the betting market. Before free agency, Washington was +50000 to win it all, per the NBA Finals odds at FanDuel Sportsbook. They're still listed at that +50000 number, which keeps them in a tie with the Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons for the worst odds in the league.

The lack of betting odds movement doesn't necessarily reflect negatively on Kuzma. The Wizards simply have a long way to go and are just beginning to transform their roster at the start of what could be a very long rebuilding process.
