Houston Texans Draft Alabama EDGE Will Anderson Jr. 3rd Overall

A lot of quarterback buzz filled the top five of the 2023 NFL Draft, but one name that was also present was Will Anderson Jr., edge rusher from Alabama.

Even after the Houston Texans drafted CJ Stroud with the second overall pick, they traded back up to the third pick to draft Anderson Jr.

Will Anderson Jr. NFL Draft Profile

Anderson Jr. made an instant impact in the SEC for Alabama. In 2020, he led the nation in pressures, according to PFF, and in all three seasons with the Crimson Tide, he earned a PFF grade of at least 79.1.

NFL's Next Gen Stats model gives him a production score of 99 and a total score of 90, both class bests among edge rushers.

According to numberFire's expected points model, the Texans were the 17th-ranked adjusted passing defense.

They were also below average in terms of pressure rate, according to Pro-Football-Reference.

Houston Texans 2023 Outlook

The Texans' win total for the season is just 5.5 with -144 odds on the over, via FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.

They're +570 to make the playoffs, as well as +15000 to win the Super Bowl.

These odds have already shifted since the team drafted Stroud one pick earlier.
