Verdict

VONDEL (12) returned from a spell last start with an encouraging effort at Hawkesbury, racing up on the speed from the outset then holding on gamely for second at the end of 7f. Strong effort off a long break in heavy going which suggests the step up to a mile will suit. Big chance to go one better. Ex-Hong Kong galloper CLASSIC TWO (2) has been close up at both runs since returning from 14 months on the sidelines. Kept fresh since tiring close to home over 6 ¾f at this track five weeks ago. Being brought along quietly but should be ready to peak as he gets out to this more favourable trip. HELLFIGHTER (4) tackled the mile for the first time last start and did a decent job to battle on for second after being handy all the way. Just needs luck from a wide gate to be competitive again. SATONO JASMINE (10) was easily accounted for last start on a heavy track at Hawkesbury. Worth another chance on a better surface. SIRIUS MOSS (11) looks ready to step up to the mile third-up.

Recent form sound. Most recently held ground to the line 2nd of 9 at Hawkesbury Prov Mdn on May 21 over 1m, on rain affected going, 3 len behind Pawa carrying 125lbs at $2.25. The start before that 4th of 7 at Newcastle Super Mdn on May 2 over 7 ½f, 1.5 len behind All Star with 127lbs at $3.60. Capable of building on that performance and he looks one of the main chances.
