MAGNUS MAXIMUS (3) resumes as the horse to beat, with a Wodonga trial win two weeks ago giving him a solid platform after his last campaign that included a Swan Hill third and a sixth at this venue on heavy ground. The 6f remains the small reservation, but his overall exposed form is the right benchmark for this field. FLYING BETTY (17) has the strongest recent body of work, beaten a nose at Leeton two back before being checked and still finishing within three lengths at Wagga Riverside. SURREAL RETIREMENT (4) was excellent on debut when beaten a neck at Albury and has clear upside, although she has a wide draw and is back to an untried 6f. ULTRASONIC (14) was below her best last start, but her previous third at this track keeps her in the mix if she returns to that sharper effort.
