ASK ME MATE (3) put the writing on the wall last start when he came from midfield to be beaten just 0.6 lengths over 6f at this track. Has raced twice over 7f here and won them both. Perfectly placed at the fourth run back from a spell with the winkers going back on. HOU LONG GWAI (8) worked into the race before the turn then went home too well in a BM58 over this course and distance recently. Up in grade but open to further improvement at just the third run of the campaign. Honest veteran GENERAL WOLFFE (12) added to a long list of minor placings when edged out over the mile here ten days ago. Rarely wins but should never be left out of the exotics. GOT GUMPTION (4) is in the mix off a game victory under a big weight at Mackay last start. Distance specialist NIGHTSTICK (1) has been freshened up and from a decent gate cannot be overlooked.
