Verdict

BLACK DIAMOND (7) gave a great sight in front on debut at Arawa Park when fighting on bravely off the front to hold on to second, finishing half a length from the winner. She cops a wider gate this time, but will have the services of Craig Grylls, and she can go one better. FORESTER (1) has been thereabouts in 3 of her 4 career starts, including a solid effort for fourth on good ground at Tauranga nearly 7 weeks ago. He probably prefers it wet, and if not in need of the run, he can figure in the top 3. GOLDEN POINT (2) ran his best race yet when resuming with a second at Te Aroha 10 days ago. He hit the line strongly that day and will naturally improve with more racing. Stick with him on an each-way basis. ROYAL CANTER (4) was given plenty of trial experience prior to a sound run for seventh on debut at Arawa Park where he weakened in the run home after trying to make all the running. He handles it wet and he can finish a lot closer this time.

Horse Racing Basic Terms

Breeder

The owner of a horse’s dam – or mother - at the time a horse is foaled.

Rabbit

Also known as a pacemaker; this is a horse with no expected chance of winning but is used to prompt a quick pace on the front end of the race to the benefit of a stablemate who is a closer.

Also Eligible

A horse that is entered but does not draw into the body of the field due to too many entries, and thus is not permitted to start unless there are enough scratches to shrink the field size.
