Netherlands vs. Romania Analysis

Romania were surprise Group E winners, scoring four times and conceding three goals across a trio of group-stage matches against Belgium, Ukraine and Slovakia.

Romania started its campaign with a 3-0 win over Ukraine before a 2-0 loss to Belgium and a 1-1 draw versus Slovakia.

According to the expected goals (xG) from FBRef's model, Romania have amassed 3.2 xG and given up 3.3 xG.

The Netherlands got third in what ended up being a very stout Group D. The Dutch beat Poland (2-1), drew with France (0-0) and lost to Austria (3-2).

The Netherlands were unlucky in the loss to Austria, winning the xG battle 1.7-0.9 despite the 3-2 defeat. But on the flip side, Holland were fortunate to draw with France as they fell 1.4-0.5 on xG. Overall, the Netherlands have scored 3.7 xG and allowed 3.6 xG.

By virtue of being on the easier side of the bracket, the Netherlands have the sixth-shortest odds to win Euro 2024 (+1200).
