Copa America 2024 United States vs. Bolivia: Picks, Predictions, and Odds

The United States will start their 2024 Copa America campaign on Sunday against Bolivia. In the 2016 edition of this tournament, the U.S. made the quarterfinal and get another crack at this tournament on home soil.

The U.S. is not among the favorites to win the competition and will face tougher teams down the line. In this match, they are heavily favored and should be able to start off on the right foot.

So how should we bet on this match, given the Copa America odds listed on FanDuel Sportsbook?

Copa America 2024 Betting Picks: USA vs Bolivia

Under 2.5 Goals (+126)

The United States has some talented players playing on good teams. A problem with their squad in tournaments past has been lack of players competing in top leagues, but that's not the case anymore.

Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah play for AC Milan. Weston McKennie and Timothy Weah play for Juventus, another top Italian side. Most of the other players on the squad are playing for good teams in Europe.

The exception is at striker, where they don't have a player who they can rely on for goals. Even a player as good as Pulisic only has 29 goals in 68 appearances for the US.

The Americans will likely use Haji Wright at striker. Wright had 19 goals in 51 games in all competitions with Cardiff, who play in the second division in England. That doesn't inspire much confidence that he will be able to score many goals.

The US have scored more than two goals just once in their last six matches. This was a problem at the 2022 World Cup, as well, as the team scored just three goals in four matches.

Meanwhile, Bolivia is one of the weaker teams in the tournament. They rank 84th in the world, according to FIFA. They don't have a player playing in a major European league and have just six players playing outside of Bolivia.

In their last 12 matches, they've scored just eight goals. In the span, they've only scored more than once against Algeria in March.

Tournament games tend to be lower scoring, so that just adds the under at +126 being the route I want to take in betting this game.

Christian Pulisic to Score First (+410)

We discussed the lack of strikers for Team USA that will really make a difference, but we can back Pulisic to score. He's their best attacking player by some distance and will likely stay on the pitch for the majority of the game unless things get out of hand.

The fact this could be a low-scoring match makes me like the fact that Pulisic probably won't get subbed off because that means this first goal could come quite late in the game. A player like Haji Wright could be subbed early in the second half or even sooner if things aren't going well.

Pulisic will likely be the penalty-taker for the U.S. and the direct free kicker, giving him additional opportunities to score.
