Arsenal vs. Coventry Picks, Prediction

Arsenal Over 2.5 Goals (-111)

Despite the Gunners not often being a free-flowing side in attack, I'm comfortable asking Arsenal to win handily in what is a massive step up in competition for Coventry.

Coventry were excellent in the Championship last season, finishing first with a 28-11-7 record while scoring 97 goals and allowing only 45. But a trip to the defending Premier League champions is an entirely different challenge — in Matchweek 1 no less — and Coventry will also be without Haji Wright, who led the club with 17 league goals last season and is sidelined by a quad injury.

Arsenal have plenty of firepower to take advantage. Viktor Gyökeres scored 14 Premier League goals last season despite starting only 26 matches. Arsenal have also strengthened an already loaded squad this summer with the additions of Bruno Guimarães and Christos Tzolis. They have — by a comfortable margin — the best squad depth in the league, so even though they’ll likely be sans some key cogs today, they can create loads of chances and net at least three goals.

Arsenal vs Coventry Projected Lineups

Arsenal Possible Starting XI: Raya; White, Mosquera, Gabriel, Calafiori; Odegaard, Lewis-Skelly, Rice; Madueke, Gyokeres, Tzolis.

Coventry Possible Starting XI: Rushworth; van Ewijk, Thomas, Amenda, Jay da Silva; Yirenkyi, Grimes, Onyeka; Tchaouna, Simms, Thomas-Asante.

Soccer Betting FAQ

What is a moneyline bet in soccer?

A moneyline bet is a wager on which team will win the match. Because soccer matches can end in a draw, most moneyline markets include three options: the home team, the away team, or a draw.

What does “draw no bet” mean?

Draw no bet removes the draw as a losing outcome. If the match ends tied, your wager is refunded. If your team wins, the bet wins.

What is a soccer total?

A total is a bet on how many combined goals will be scored in a match. For example, an Over 2.5 Goals bet wins if at least three goals are scored.

What does “both teams to score” mean?

Both Teams to Score, often abbreviated BTTS, is a wager on whether each team will score at least one goal during the match.
