Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy hockey on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

NHL Prop Bets

Matt Duchene To Score a Goal (+195)

The Dallas Stars are massive -410 road favorites with a 4.20 implied goal total against the San Jose Sharks, putting them in a spot to pile up the goals.

With 225 goals through 63 games this season, the Stars are the second-highest scoring team in the NHL and are set to take on the worst defensive (235 goals allowed) team. This is as lopsided as you can find, and it should lead to plenty of potential for the Stars' offense.

We'll turn to Matt Duchene, who is having a fantastic season for the Stars, coming in with 23 goals in 61 games. Despite that success, Duchene has just a single goal in his last seven games but a very solid 18 shots on goal.

He's done this while on the second forward line and the second power-play unit, the latter of which could see plenty of success tonight against the fourth-worst (74.5%) penalty kill in the league.

The Stars should pour in the goals tonight, and Duchene will be in a prime spot to break this goal drought.

Sidney Crosby Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (-102)

The Pittsburgh Penguins are in essentially "must-win" games, and it's time to stick with their main guy.

That would be Sidney Crosby, who comes in with 38 shots on goal over his last 10 games while seeing his usual time on the first forward line and the first power-play unit.

The Penguins come in on a two-game losing streak and are set to face the Columbus Blue Jackets, who are on the second night of a back-to-back, making this a clear spot to target.

Over the last two weeks, the Blue Jackets have allowed 66.10 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the seventh-worst in the league.

While the desperation factor is not something we can quantify, Crosby has shown a high level of consistency and has a soft matchup to continue that trend tonight.

Warren Foegele Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+122)

The Edmonton Oilers and the Boston Bruinsare going head-to-head in what could be the game of the night.

Two of the best teams in the league at this point in the season should bring us high-quality hockey action from start to finish.

Over the last two weeks, we've seen these teams at opposite ends when it comes to shot attempts created and allowed, which presents some opportunity for the Oilers.

During this span, the Oilers lead the league with 75.22 Total Shot Attempts created per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. The Bruins come in having allowed 67.09 Total Shot Attempts, which is the fifth-worst in the league.

I'll turn to Warren Foegele, who comes in with 27 shots on goal over his last 10 games while seeing time on the third forward line and the second power-play unit. On the third forward line, the other two skaters have 12 and 13 shots on goal, showing that Foegele is the primary shooter on that line.

He should continue to be in a position to pile up the shots and hit over 2.5 shots, something he's done in five of his last 10 games.
