3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Thursday 6/22/23
Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.
Here are some low-salary players to target on FanDuel for tonight's main slate.
Advanced statistics courtesy of FanGraphs.
Logan Allen, SP, Cleveland Guardians
If you're looking to save salary at pitcher, there's no better value for today's slate than Logan Allen.
The rookie pitcher has been solid through his first 10 starts for the Cleveland Guardians, putting together a 22.0% strikeout rate and a 3.81 fielding independent pitching (FIP). His numbers from Triple-A before getting called up only paint a better picture of what he's capable of as he had a 34.5% strikeout rate in 14 1/3 innings.
With the Oakland Athletics in town, he should be able to only better his numbers against their weak offense.
The A's being toward the bottom of almost every meaningful statistic shouldn't come as a surprise given that they are a 19-win team, but it's brilliant if you're trying to use a value pitcher like Allen. Oakland has a league-worst weighted on-base average (wOBA) of .291 to mix with their 24.9% strikeout rate (fourth-highest in baseball). Allen should be able to take advantage.
numberFire's model has Allen projected for 28.9 FanDuel points, and he's a great guy to turn to if you're looking for a low-salary arm.
Michael Harris II, OF, Atlanta Braves
After struggling through the first two months of the season, Michael Harris II looks like the player he was when he won the NL Rookie of the Year in 2022.
So far in June, Harris has an eye-popping wOBA of .428 to go along with 4 home runs and 12 RBIs. He earned the NL Player of the Week award a week ago and is playing the kind of baseball that the Atlanta Braves came to expect of him. He's driving the ball, too, with a 44.4% hard-hit rate and only a 13.0% soft-hit rate in June.
The matchup against Philadelphia Phillies starter Aaron Nola may make DFS gamers pause at firs, but Harris can come through in this spot.
Nola hasn't had his best year to date thus far. He currently holds a 3.90 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA), which is his highest since the 2019 season. The righty's strikeout rate is also down 4.7 percentage points from a year ago. The dominance hasn't been there, giving Harris a fine chance to take advantage
Harris is projected for 10.5 FanDuel points, according to numberFire's model.
Geraldo Perdomo, SS, Arizona Diamondbacks
The final value worth selecting for your lineups for today's slate is Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo.
Perdomo -- who is forecasted to be in the leadoff spot -- has played a key part in the Diamondbacks' early season success as he's been able to deliver with the bat. What jumps out to you more than anything with Perdomo's numbers is the .374 wOBA. He's running, too, stealing a pair of bases yesterday and is hitting a lot of fly-balls (42.9% rate).
And to make this play all the better, a chance to hit off of Washington Nationals pitcher Jake Irvin should allow Perdomo -- and the majority of the Diamondbacks' lineup -- to thrive.
Irvin doesn't miss many bats (4.9% swinging-strike rate) as he's striking out only 16.3% of the batters he faces. Add in the hideous 5.75 SIERA that Irvin is sporting, and there are a lot of reasons to play Perdomo as well as stack him alongside the likes of Corbin Carroll (numberFire's top projected batter), Ketel Marte, and Lourdes Gurriel.
Arizona has the slate's top implied total (5.07), and they're the clear standout stacking option.
numberFire has Perdomo projected for 12.8 FanDuel points, which makes him the number-two point-per-dollar bat.
