Zach Wilson Fantasy Outlook Paints Him as a Potential Sleeper for the 2021 NFL Season
When Zach Wilson was selected second overall at the 2021 NFL Draft, it was clear that the New York Jets viewed him not only as their quarterback of the future but of the present as well. He looked impressive over three seasons with the BYU Cougars, which included him winning the 2018 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl MVP award. However, college success doesn't always translate quickly to the NFL level and the fact that Wilson plays for the Jets — who haven't been good in years — could have him as a fantasy football sleeper pick.
Zach Wilson Fantasy Outlook
Fantasy Pros is currently ranking Wilson as QB30 for the upcoming season and has his average draft position (ADP) listed at 204.5. He's coming off of a collegiate campaign that saw him throw for 3,692 passing yards and 33 touchdowns to 3 interceptions.
As mentioned before, it's understandable that some fantasy owners may sleep on Wilson due to this being his rookie season and his playing for the Jets. However, New York has actually done a decent job at building a solid foundation around him. He'll have a duo of veteran wideouts at his disposal in the form of Corey Davis and Jameison Crowder — both of whom have been productive in the past. The Jets also used a second-round pick to bring in former Ole Miss Rebels WR Elijah Moore, who is someone they'd like to see Wilson build chemistry with as time passes.
Another thing that Wilson will have going for him is that the Jets likely won't be a playoff team this year, which means he should see a lot of garbage time possessions. While that may not be great for New York when it comes to the standings, it does mean that he should put up some late points for fantasy owners.
Wilson is currently listed as QB26 on The Duel's fantasy football rankings.
