Zach Harrison Scouting Report
Harrison committed to Ohio State as a top-five national recruit and wasted no time making a name for himself at the collegiate level. He tallied 24 total tackles (5.5 for loss) and 3.5 sacks in 10 games as a freshman before he posted 14 total tackles (4.5 for loss) and 2.0 sacks in 7 games as a sophomore.
The Ohio native stayed productive as a third-team All-Big Ten player in 2021, logging 25 total tackles (6.0 for loss) and 2.0 sacks in 10 games. Harrison's best year came as a senior when he was named a second-team All-Big Ten player with 34 total tackles (8.0 for loss) and 3.5 sacks across 13 games.
Highlighted strengths of Harrison's game focus on his length. His long arms are an advantage as they help him stay extended during pass rushing snaps and create open lanes for himself as well as his teammates. Harrison has also been praised for an ability to get his hands up into throwing lanes.
Harrison is not a prospect without flaws, though, as he lacks the pre-snap anticiaption skills needed to be an every-down player. He is usually late off the snap and it hurts his chances of getting to the quarterback. Nonetheless, Harrison could make a legitimate impact under the right coaching staff.
Zach Harrison NFL Draft Prediction
Harrison could end up hearing his name called as early as the second round or as late as the fifth round. It all comes down to whether a team likes to bet on players with undeniable physical traits or extensive college production. Harrison is a specimen that could be molded into an NFL starter.
Denver is a logical landing spot for Harrison given its history of developing pass rushing talent. Dre'Mont Jones was a third-round pick in 2019 and tied a career-high mark with 6.5 sacks in 2022 before he departed in free agency. Harrison could be looked at as an option to fill that D-line void.
The Broncos do not have a draft pick until the early third round due to various trades made in the past, but they do have two selections there. Denver's front office could stay pat in hopes that Harrison is still on the board when those picks arrive or package them together in order to move up.
Prediction: Denver Broncos (Round 3, 67 or 68 overall)
