After being claimed off waivers by San Francisco Giants in June, Yermin Mercedes was a consistent part of the club's lineup in July. Unfortunately, he's been sent to the minors multiple times since then, leading to things reaching a boiling point early Friday morning.

Mercedes has taken to Instagram to request his release from the Giants. In the Instagram story translated by MLB insider Héctor Gómez, the 29-year-old says, "Damn the time when one has to eat s--t..., I want my damn release..."

Mercedes' frustration is more than understandable. He went from playing 23 games with the Giants in July before playing just six in August and none in September.

On the other hand, Mercedes' play in August warranted a demotion. In July, the versatile hitter recorded 14 hits, a home run and eight RBIs while batting .275. He didn't come close to that in the following month, racking up just two hits in 18 at-bats for a .111 batting average.

Nevertheless, Mercedes has been playing decently with Triple-A Sacramento. He has five HRs and 13 RBIs while slashing .276/.342/.459 in 26 games. If he is granted his release, he's talented and versatile enough to add some depth to another MLB club.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Mercedes. Considering that he's under team control until 2028, the Giants likely aren't in any rush to give in to his demands.
