The New York Yankees have been one of the most disappointing teams in the MLB this season as they are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Well, the bad news just keeps on coming as outfielder Tim Locastro tore his ACL following a highlight reel catch on Saturday.
Tim Locastro Injury Update
Locastro banged against the left field wall to make a great catch during the first inning against the Boston Red Sox. However, he was forced to exit the game soon after and an MRI confirmed what everyone was fearing would be the case. The 29-year-old's 2021 season is now over.
Unfortunately, this is something that could also carry over into the start of next season as well. The Yankees have struggled to find consistency in their outfield and will now have to make another move in order to get some help. They recently acquired Locastro in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The fifth-year pro was okay in his short stint as a starter with the Yankees. He posted a slash line of .190/.217/.429 to go along with 4 runs scored, 1 home run and 4 RBI across nine games played. Locastro's future remains up in the air as he is controllable through the 2024 campaign via arbitration.
The Yankees must have a big second half of the season if they want any chance of getting back in the playoff race. For now, the team has odds set at +1000 to win the AL East division and odds set at +2500 to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
