A battle between two AFC teams fighting to stay in the playoff mix is set to take place in Week 8 as the Los Angeles Chargers host the New England Patriots. FanDuel Sportsbook has the Chargers slated as 6-point favorites in a game that is full of playmakers all over the field.
If you need some help with your fantasy lineups, here's some start 'em, sit 'em advice for this Week 8 AFC clash.
Damien Harris Fantasy
Start Damien Harris, RB, New England Patriots: The Patriots may have stumbled into something with Damien Harris. The third-year pro has come alive over the last two weeks posting back-to-back games with over 100 rushing yards and 1 touchdown. Harris currently ranks as the RB16 in PPR scoring leagues and draws a dream matchup in Week 8. The Chargers own the worst rush defense DVOA rating in the NFL and are allowing a league-high 5.4 yards per rush attempt. The Patriots will have to lean on the running game to keep this game close and that means feeding the ball to Harris. Start him with confidence on Sunday.
Keenan Allen Fantasy
Start Keenan Allen, WR, Los Angeles Chargers: The Chargers have put together one of the best offenses in the league and are averaging 282.8 yards through the air per game (No. 7 in NFL). While wide receiver Mike Williams is in the midst of a breakout season, it's important to not overlook Keenan Allen. The Pro Bowl pass-catcher is averaging 6.5 receptions per game and leads the team with 58 targets this year. The Patriots rank in the middle of the pack when it comes to defending the pass, but they have given up 11.2 yards per completion (No. 23 in NFL). Look for quarterback Justin Herbert to get Allen involved this week.
Jakobi Meyers Fantasy
Sit Jakobi Meyers, WR, New England Patriots: Jakobi Meyers has easily been the best wide receiver on this Patriots' offense this season. This is more about the matchup in front of him than anything else. The Chargers have been dominant at shutting down the pass and are giving up the fewest PPR fantasy points to the position overall. In fact, they have allowed the fewest receptions (66) and receiving yards (663) to opposing WRs. Meyers has yet to score a touchdown in his NFL career and that truly limits any upside he has. It's too risky to start him in Week 8.
Jared Cook Fantasy
Sit Jared Cook, TE, Los Angeles Chargers: Tight end Jared Cook has become a viable TE2 in fantasy football, but this is not the week to slide him into your starting lineup. New England is giving up the second-fewest PPR fantasy points to opposing TEs, which includes just 2 receiving touchdowns. Keep in mind that Cook is averaging only 7.1 yards per target and is the fourth-best option in the Chargers' passing attack. He simply isn't seeing enough volume to be a matchup-proof starting player yet. The 13th-year pro should stay on the bench this week.
