Even with Drew Brees out, the New Orleans Saints look like one of the best teams in the NFL right now. Even with Drew Lock healthy, the Denver Broncos don't. This week's Saints vs Broncos' matchup isn't expected to be super close, but it still offers some interesting situations in fantasy football.
Here are the top start 'em, sit 'em fantasy picks for this matchup.
Taysom Hill Fantasy
Start Taysom Hill, QB, New Orleans Saints: Taysom Hill didn't throw the ball especially well in his first NFL start, but he played it safe and had 233 yards with no interceptions. Where he really shined was with his legs, adding 49 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. Those 6-point rushing touchdowns, and rushing yards being worth more than passing yards for fantasy scores, his ability to contribute on the ground will continue making Hill a strong fantasy option for as long as he's the Saints' QB1.
KJ Hamler Fantasy
Start KJ Hamler, WR, Denver Broncos: The Broncos are significant underdogs here, meaning they'll likely be forced to pass more than usual. KJ Hamler had 6 targets in a Week 11 win, but it's his numbers in the Broncos' last two losses that make him really exciting here. He tallied 10 targets in each of those games, averaging 5.0 receptions for 62.5 yards per game.
Emmanuel Sanders Fantasy
Sit Emmanuel Sanders, WR, New Orleans Saints: Hill did his best Drew Brees impression by feeding Michael Thomas, who had 9 catches on 12 targets in Week 11. That left Emmanuel Sanders with just 5 targets. That kind of volume just isn't going to get it done for fantasy purposes with any consistency, especially with a subpar passer like Hill delivering the volume.
Melvin Gordon Fantasy
Sit Melvin Gordon, RB, Denver Broncos: On the other side of the coin from Hamler, Melvin Gordon gets a downgrade because the Broncos will likely be forced to go pass-heavy while playing from behind here. Gordon has just a combined 64 yards on 17 carries with 1 reception for 9 yards across the Broncos' last two losses. Making things even worse, the Saints have allowed the NFL's fewest fantasy points per game to opposing RBs.
