The Washington Football Team will head into the 2021 season with 2020 breakout player Logan Thomas as their starting tight end. However, there's question marks behind him on the depth chart.

WFT got one step closer to figuring out its backup situation by releasing Temarrick Hemingway on Thursday.

Hemingway was a favorite to latch on with the team given his NFL experience, including playing eight games for Washington last year. However, his preseason performance didn't go as planned, which put him on the chopping block.

That now leaves John Bates, Sammis Reyes, Ricky Seals-Jones and Caleb Wilson competing for backup duties behind Thomas. Bates and Reyes could have the inside track. Bates was the team's fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and Washington was aggressive in signing Reyes this offseason.

WFT owns +156 odds to make the playoffs this year, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
