The Carolina Panthers made a surprising splash on Monday by trading for New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold.

The writing was already on the wall early in the offseason, but this trade just confirmed that they're already prepared to move on from Teddy Bridgewater.

With that in mind, it's time for the Minnesota Vikings to bring back Teddy Two-Gloves.

Teddy Bridgewater Vikings

Bridgewater played the best football of his pro career with the Vikes. In 2015, he made the Pro Bowl while throwing for 3,231 yards and 14 touchdowns, leading the team to an 11-5 record.

He hasn't looked like a Pro Bowl passer since then, thank to career-threatening injuries de-railing his development. But he's still proven capable of being one of the best backup quarterbacks in the NFL.

He showcased that with the New Orleans Saints in 2019, spelling Drew Brees for five games and leading the Saints to a 5-0 record while throwing for 1,384 yards with 9 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions.

His hefty contract may be a little tough to swallow, but that means a potential trade should come with a very low cost, especially now that the Panthers appear to be actively shopping Bridgewater.

The Vikings are still hoping to be a playoff contender in the NFC, as they're just one year removed from a 10-win season, and having a top backup QB would be a great insurance plan if anything happens to Kirk Cousins. If they don't add anyone, their insurance plan is just 2020 7th-round pick Nate Stanley.
