The Minnesota Vikings are hoping that they can finally break out of their slump and find postseason success at the end of the 2022 NFL season. They're going to need as much depth as possible to get there, which is why their latest free agency rumor might intrigue some fans.

NFL inside Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday that former Vikings wide receiver Dede Westbrook is scheduled to work out with the team. Assuming all goes well, the 28-year-old could be back on Minnesota's roster over the "next couple of days."

Minnesota Vikings Rumors

After spending the first four seasons of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Westbrook joined the Vikings for the 2021 NFL season, playing only 21% of offensive snaps along with 13% of special teams opportunities.

Westbrook wasn't exactly effective in either regard. He was only targeted 15 times for 10 receptions and 68 receiving yards without a touchdown. He did end up returning 22 punts, however, his 8.3 yards per return happened to be the second-worst average of his five-year career.

Nevertheless, Westbrook can carve himself an opportunity with a strong training camp. The Vikings' WR room is a toss-up after Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen and K.J. Osborn. Considering how Wesbrook hit 660 receiving yards only three years ago, something could still be there.

Vikings Super Bowl Odds
