The Minnesota Vikings have had their fair share of shortcomings over recent years, which include missing the playoffs in three of the last four seasons. The organization is hoping to change their fortunes in 2022 after a busy offseason, but not everyone has faith in that happening.

NBC Sports' Peter King has unveiled his 2022 NFL power rankings, listing the Vikings as the No. 19-ranked team. While that placement is already disrespectful on its own, Minnesota fans won't be thrilled by the ranking for one of the other NFC North teams.

King continues to disrespect the Vikings by only having them one spot ahead of the Detroit Lions, who finished second last in the league in 2021. When it comes to the other AFC North teams, the Green Bay Packers sit at No. 5, while the Chicago Bears are No. 28.

The Vikings may have come up short lately, but they're far from a bottom-16 team. Kirk Cousins may not be an elite quarterback, yet he's surrounded by high-end weapons in Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen and Dalvin Cook. The quartet helped Minnesota average 25.0 PPG (No. 13) last year.

The Vikings' Achilles' heel last year was their defense, which should be better in 2022. New defensive coordinator Ed Donatell has a pair of Super Bowl wins under his belt and this unit should be stronger if Danielle Hunter can stay healthy for the entire year.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell is also bringing some momentum with him after winning Super Bowl LVI as the Los Angeles Rams' offensive coordinator. If he can have the same impact on the Vikings' offense as he did for the Rams, fans are in for a treat.

There's still a lot to prove before the Vikings are declared a Super Bowl threat. Minnesota currently has +4000 odds (T-No. 17) to win Super Bowl LVII, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
